A comprehensive cross-platform database solution for research and breeding animal tracking, management and reporting.
Designed, built and tested in close consultation with animal facilities and research institutions, Genotrack utilises the latest technologies to provide a customiseable, flexible solution for your animal management and reporting requirements and encourages a standardised approach to Strain, Colony, Mating, Litter and Animal recording.
Genotrack handles breeding and colony management, genotype and phenotype tracking through experimentation and analysis to reporting and compliance. Our generic, scalable approach means we can cater for animals of various size and species, to help you implement a standarised approach to Strain, Colony, Mating, Litter and Animal management.
If you are working with large numbers of animals, our integrated barcode support improves the speed and accuracy of your data recording and workflows.
Benefits
- Streamlined workflows – centralize your information, communication and documentation. More efficient recording with less redundancy means your staff spend more time doing the jobs they’re trained for.
- Better accuracy – Recording is faster and more accurate. Configurable default values and data validation and integrity checking helps ensure your data is right the first time.
- Reporting – Real time reporting and statistics from your data means less time spent compiling, creating and distributing reports. More detailed, accurate and accessible reporting leads to better information transfer to researchers and ethics committees, and potentially a reduction in the number of animals needed and used.
- Cooperative – Genotrack works alongside your existing systems. We don’t seek to replace or replicate your existing tools and workflows, but to work with them (and you) to make your life easier.
- Flexible – you can setup and customize many aspects of the system to match your facility and workflows.
- Secure – Automated data backup. No more worrying about a single point of failure for your critical data in a paper-based system. We will work with your IT team to ensure your data is protected.
- Supported – Need a new report? Let us know. If Genotrack doesn’t do something you need, tell us – we love a challenge! We actively seek to work with you to enhance and adapt the system to meet the needs of your facility and staff.
Features
- Strain Management – all your strain data in one central location. Record the species, names, pseudonyms, types, alleles, phenotypes, background, characteristics, construction, maintenance information, screening protocols, literature references, distribution and crossing restrictions and more.
- Gene and Allele Management - record the type of genetic mutation, targeting method, genetic position, genome coordinates and chromosome. You specify which alleles are of interest for the strain. Enter inheritance properties and expected phenotype(s) for each allele or locus you’re tracking on the strain. These customizable settings determine which expressions are available to the animals, reducing the likelihood of incorrect genotypes being assigned to an animal.
- Phenotype Management – Specify which phenotypes are of interest for a particular colony, and what format the data should take. By creating a set of appropriate responses for each phenotype data entry and collation is faster and more accurate.
- Colony Management – track all the relevant contacts and data associated with a colony. Set default values to save time when adding new animals to a colony, including genotypes for homozygous colonies. Specify the criteria used to determine breeder and weaning selection. Set the age at which animals need to be genotyped, weaned or reviewed, then automatically generate daily task lists based on these criteria. Genotrack provides instant statistical snapshot analysis of your colonies, including mortality rates and breeding trends. Approval tracking for production methods and management information ensures your staff are always working with the most up-to-date parameters and protocols.
- Detailed stocktake and status reports – know how many animals you have, where they are and what they’re doing. Optimise production and reduce animal use through better tracking of stock levels and production rates with colony stocktake and status reports.
- Cost Recovery – Record cost recovery items (housing/agistment costs, procedural charges, medical and transport expenses) at the colony, project, animal or procedure levels then combine them for detailed price-per-animal or price-per-box reports.
- Hierarchical Cost centre support – Enter your cost codes, then any number of levels of subcodes to aid integration with your central billing or accounting systems.
- Environmental Factors – record general or specific colony or animal level environmental factors which may impact on your experiment or breeding program.
- Mating Management – built-in support for multiple mating types and protocols. Automatic updating of multiple animal matings when a participant is retired or relocated. Label matings with your own identifiers, and litters from those matings are labeled automatically for easier referencing.
- Litter tracking – Record birth and weaning details. Track deaths, discards, culls and animals used prior to weaning. Automatically create linked individual offspring records for surviving animals.
- Generation Numbers – Filial and Nuclear generation numbers are calculated automatically based on the parents of a litter and the type of mating.
- Detailed animal recording – Record details of procedures, observations, genotypes, phenotype, score sheets, care reports, analysis, notes and more. Multiple reference and naming fields allow cross referencing between systems. Link photos, movies or documents with an animal. Track environmental factors with customisable attributes. Set & enforce your own standards for genotype and phenotype expression to improve data consistency and make recording faster and less prone to error. All these factors and more automatically create a detailed history of the animal at all stages of the life cycle.
- Customisable Locations and Housing – The Genotrack virtual location structure allows you to define the hierarchy of physical locations and housing units – represent your structure with your terminology. Complete and flexible control over where animals are able to be housed. Add location specific information, environmental conditions, notes and general observations for each housing unit.
- Automated Housing – Animals are automatically allocated to housing units when matings are setup, when litters are born and for Males and Females on weaning. Updated cage cards with barcodes can be printed automatically as animals are relocated within your structure.
- Project and Task Management – record project information, including approved animal totals by strain, sex and age. Real-time reporting on animal use to date – how many of the approved animals have been used? Assign tasks and track progress on the tasks you’re requested. Get automatic email notification on task completion to make sure you’re in the loop
- Care Reports and Adverse Events – Enter and track care reports and treatment details for individual animals. Automatic email notifications are sent to your nominated vet or other contact in the event of high risk event.
- Scoring – Create your own signs then combine them into scoresheets for fast, simple and incredibly flexible means of scoring your animals and tracking their welfare.
- File attachments – link SOPs to procedures, results to animals or photos to strains or animals.
- Personalised access control – you decide who gets access to which strain, colony or project, and who can modify your information.
- Compliance – Automatically generate detailed reports and use returns for submission to regulatory bodies or committees.
- OGTR Dealings - Track your dealings with the OGTR, and link dealings to strains, colonies or projects as appropriate.
- Training and Competency of staff - track who is qualified on which procedures to aid compliance with regulatory bodies.
- Detailed logging/change tracking - know who made what changes, and when.
- Barcoding – print cage labels and task lists with barcodes. Scan barcode to jump to the animal, mating, litter or housing unit you’re working with. Barcoded SOP lists enable rapid processing of standard procedures, with those procedures automatically incorporated into the animal’s history.
