"User Account Control (UAC) is a new security component in Windows Vista. UAC enables users to perform common tasks as non-administrators, called standard users in Windows Vista, and as administrators without having to switch users, log off, or use Run As. A standard user account is synonymous with a user account in Windows XP. User accounts that are members of the local Administrators group will run most applications as a standard user. By separating user and administrator functions while enabling productivity, UAC is an important enhancement for Windows Vista." (Microsoft)
Either use the "Run as Administrator" option or place the entire application outside of any of the UAC protected folders.
DEP is a security standard developed by Microsoft to prevent malicious code from being run on a system. If a program tries to run code from a protected location, DEP closes the program and notifies you, whether the code is malicious or not. (Microsoft)
DEP should no longer present a problem - the latest releases of all Halogenics Software by default are authorized to execute on systems with DEP protection activated.
For older versions of Halogenics Software, we recommend you add an exception for both the client and server applications, as outlined in the original post below, or contact Halogenics for an update.
"Some vulnerabilities have been reported in Adobe Flash Player, which can be exploited by malicious, local users to disclose sensitive information and potentially gain escalated privileges, and by malicious people to bypass certain security restrictions, disclose potentially sensitive information, and compromise a user's system."
Update your Flash Player to the latest version (to 10.0.22.87 or later for Mac/Win)
Halogenics have revised the minimum system requirements for all products based on this advisory.
